What is Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a form of assisted reproductive technology (ART) where sperms are directly inserted into a woman’s uterus using a catheter. The procedure increases the chances of fertilization for couples struggling with infertility. The goal of IUI is to place a higher concentration of sperm closer to the fallopian tubes, where fertilization can occur, thereby increasing the chances of pregnancy.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is one of the simplest and cheapest forms of ART. It could be done regardless of whether the female partner is undergoing a fertility program or not. However, we encourage the female partner to also participate in fertility programs to increase the chances of success.

IUI involves three major steps. They are;

•Tracking ovulation to identify a fertile period.
•Collecting and washing the semen.
•Inserting the sperm directly into the uterus.

Who Should Consider Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

•Couples battling male Infertility like low sperm count, decreased sperm mobility, election/ejaculation issues

Effects of Risks Associated with Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

There is a small risk of infection following the IUI procedure. Your doctor will use sterile instruments, so infection is very rare. If medications are used to induce ovulation, there is a risk of pregnancy with multiple babies.
